Dog's listen to your problems without judgement. They don't mind when you clumsily drop half your dinner on the floor. If you need to pass gas, well you know you're in good company. Your dog will love you unconditionally no matter how often you vacuum the living room floor. They don't even notice when you go 2 weeks without shaving your legs. If you can name a friend who will tolerate these actions, then you are one lucky individual. If you can't, then I recommend taking a stroll through your local animal shelter. It is there where you will find your truest friend.
We had to put down my truest friend of the past 10 years down last fall - my dear friend and blog comment avatar, Ollie the Brittany, who had an inoperable abscess burst on his kidney. Still a puppy at heart, he went from playdog to horribly sick and in pain in 3 days, then died in my arms. He was the best dog ever! He certainly didn't mind if I didn't shave my legs. We are heading for the shelter when the hole in my heart heals over, but that may take awhile....
ReplyDeleteVery nice tribute, and a great suggestion, for people to seek their canine (and feline!) companions from a shelter. Too many unwanted pets still need a good home!
